Rider Insurance-Motorcycle Awareness Month

Rider Insurance is joining with federal, state and local highway safety, law enforcement and motorcycle organizations in proclaiming May as “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month”.

By increasing safe riding and cooperation between motorists and all other road users, we can reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on our nation’s highways.

In recognition and support of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, Rider Insurance will be giving away hundreds of dollars a day in motorcycle safety apparel and motorcycle training courses throughout May on Facebook. The promotion will kick off at 10 am on May 1, 2011 and everyone who “likes” Rider Insurance’s page on Facebook is eligible to participate.Details can be found on the Rider Insurance website and on the Rider Insurance Facebook page.

Rider will also be introducing new “Watch for Motorcycles” decals and reflective helmet stickers.They will be available at the Rider booth at various motorcycle events and motorcycle dealerships throughout IN, MD, NJ, OH, PA, and WV free of charge.

Nearly 50 percent of all motorcycles involved in fatal crashes collided with other types of motor vehicles. There lies a great deal of importance in understanding that motorcyclists are more vulnerable than those in other types of vehicles.  Motorists should always look for motorcycles by checking mirrors and blind spots before entering or leaving a lane of traffic and at intersections. It is just as important that riders be visible to other motorists and obtain proper training and licensing, wear the appropriate protective gear, and always respect the rules of the road.

Pennsylvania Motorcycle Insurance Rates

Seems that Pennsylvania motorcycle insurance rates are going up across the board. Oddly enough, there are fewer writers of motorcycle insurance than just a few years ago. Apparently either the cost of doing business is rising or the lack of competition has companies taking a gamble on raising rates for many motorcycle owners.

Traditionally, pennsylvania motorcycle insurance was a very profitable line of business for the companies. Seems that every year about this time we’re swamped with requests for different. cheaper cycle insurance from clients and others.  Finding good, reasonable motorcycle seems to be getting harder and harder….and this is coming from a broker who represents over 12 top motorcycle insurance companies. Only promise we can make is that we will research every company offering the product and bring you back the best value we can find.

Several things you should be aware of when it comes to cycle insurance is that your car insurance will not provide teh same level of coverage that a motorcycle policy can give you. As erie insurance agents for the past 25 years, I can tell you that Erie will accomodate your motorcycle on the auto policy but there are several coverages that Erie will not or does not provide that specialty cycle insurance companies offer. Example is medical benefits for rider and passenger….most auto insurance companies will not add this type of coverage while motorcycle insurance companies add it for only a few dollars. To many riders medical expense is an important coverage that they do not wish to give up.  Coverage for miscellaneous accessories is also included by specialty carriers versus a standard auto policy which will not provide coverage for saddle bags, helmets, sound gear, etc.  Being properly informed as to which coverage is best for you and your situation can be very important in avoiding confusion or out of pocket expenses in the future.
